Is it possible to connect an UPS to the surge protector?

Power outages can have a devastating effect on sensitive electronic equipment such as computers and servers, especially in businesses. Fortunately, there are many ways to protect your devices and data from power surges and unexpected power outages.

These include power strips, surge protectors, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). And because of the slightly different functions of these two devices, we are often asked if it is possible to connect a surge protector to a UPS to double the power outage protection.

The Multilink Engineering team is here to answer that question. Read this blog to learn more about what a UPS surge protector is and why it’s not a good idea to connect it to a traditional surge protector.

What is a UPS surge protector?

Let’s start by explaining the difference between an uninterruptible power supply and a surge protector. As you know, both products are. Designed to prevent power disturbances, but they do it in different ways.

A surge protector is like an advanced extension cord with special circuitry that protects your devices from power surges, as well as an extra outlet to which you can plug your devices. What is a UPS surge protector? Well, you can think of it as an enhanced version of a surge protector.

  • It provides an extra outlet for your appliances.
  • It protects against power surges with sophisticated circuitry.
  • Serves as a backup power source in case of a power failure.

This last point is the most important element of UPS surge protection: UPSs are often. Used in factories and data centers to protect highly sensitive equipment from inappropriate disconnections. Battery backup power can provide the few minutes needed to properly shut down electronic devices and avoid damage or loss of data. Visit also: Best APC UPS price in Lahore

The million-dollar question: can a surge protector be connected to a UPS?

So, if a surge protector and an UbP can help protect your devices, why not use both together? If you can combine them properly at home or in the office, that’s not a problem.

However, we strongly recommend not connecting a surge protector to a UPS (or a UPS to a surges protector) for several reasons.

  • If the unit is connected to a UPS, the surge protector may not be able to provide enough current.
  • If the UPS is connected to a surge protector, it may be using only battery power, which limits its capacity or discharges the battery.
  • The UPS may be. Overloaded by the current from the extension cord.
  • If you connect the UPS to a surges protector, the warranty may be. Voided.

More importantly, it is not a good idea to connect a surges protector in series; the UPS is inherently a better surges protector. External power devices should always be. Plugged directly into an outlet to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operation.
